Sapphire Technologies is looking for a Sr. Oracle Database Architect for a full time position in the Denver area. You will be managing the flow of data from legacy, product specific, data maintenance systems into the new product independent model—and eventual retirement of legacy data maintenance systems once the new architecture is substantially complete.
You should have significant experience in data modeling and provide practical leadership to the team. You will provide direction on how to initiate modeling process, how to investigate legacy data sources, and how to manage data among legacy and new architecture. The successful candidate will have learned valuable lessons and provide detailed explanation of problems and challenges that he/she resolved in the implementation of a large data production system. The successful candidate will be able to communicate effectively with the entire project team.
Essential Functions:
Apply data architecture concepts and techniques to facilitate major technical decisions expressed in technical vision, strategy, and data architecture.
Define Conceptual, Logical, Physical Data Models.
Define persistent data storage mechanisms and integration solutions.
Define and lead analysis to align technical scope to project scope, determine architecturally significant requirements, define technical risks and mitigation strategy, define technical dependencies and dependency management strategy, and align solutions with enterprise architecture strategy.
Define architecture principles, guidelines, patterns, and standards with respect to data architecture.
Monitor the implementation of data architecture throughout the software development lifecycle and provide technical mentoring, guidance and clarification to other architects and technical implementation resources.
Provide effective communication to business and technical community on behalf of the project.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with key stakeholders to determine key business needs and develop technical vision and strategy.
Demonstrated ability to apply data architecture concepts and techniques to develop software architecture.
Ability to define and lead effective problem solving approaches.
Demonstrated ability to effectively document and present technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences at all levels of the organization. Demonstrated ability to facilitate meetings and generative design sessions for timely and effective decision making.
Extensive knowledge and technical foundation in Geospatial Information Systems is desirable.
Extensive knowledge and demonstrated ability in the design and implementation of systems that manage navigation information.
Extensive knowledge and demonstrated ability with Geospatial technologies such as Oracle 10g Spatial and ESRI is desirable.
Knowledge and technical foundation in the aviation and marine navigation domain is desirable.
Extensive knowledge and technical foundation in data management systems and processes focusing on large complex data management systems and data warehouses.
Extensive knowledge and technical foundation in design of data architecture for performance and scalability.
Extensive knowledge and demonstrated ability with iterative software lifecycle development methodologies (e.g., Rational Unified Process (RUP) and other agile methodologies).
Extensive knowledge and technical foundation in object oriented analysis and design, data modeling (relational, object, conceptual, logical, and physical), and object-relational mapping.
Education/Experience:
Prefer advanced degree (masters or doctorate) in technical field such as engineering or computer science and require 13 years experience in software industry (preferably in software engineering and data architecture).
