This is a unique position for a highly organized and motivated person to put his or her skills to work in a dynamic and very busy small grassroots disability rights organization.You will primarily be assisting two attorneys with disabilities.The position is a full-time salaried position that requires occasional early morning, evening, and weekend work. Essential skills and functions for the job include: * Ability to maintain office organization (neat freaks welcome) and manage small projects independently; * Ability to self initiate and multitask; * Have excellent written communication skills, including note taking skills. * Must have ability to communicate effectively in a professional business environment and in court * Must have comfort within the disability community and acceptance of a diverse workplace *Must be competent with MS Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and WordPerfect. Knowledge of Dreamweaver or other web authoring applications and basic networking a plus. * Must be able to drive and hold a valid drivers license with a good driving record. *Must be able to assist attorneys who have mobility impairments with manipulation and retrieval of large volumes of documents and other tasks related to the attorneys' disabilities. *Must have a Bachelors degree or equivalent experience. Other details: * The hours are Monday-Friday from9 to 5. Ability to arrive early and stay late upon occasion is essential. For example, somecourt appearances may require a workday beginning at 6:00 a.m.. * This is an office job. There is no opportunity to telecommute for this position Duties: *Handle all clerical tasks on a daily basis including mailing, copying, filing, preparing documents for submission to court and opposing counsel, preparing exhibits for trial, getting out press releases and other correspondence. * Attending depositions, mediations, meetings and court appearances to assist with document management and to take notes if necessary. * Return calls and handle initial client intake * Coordinate disability rights testing and monitoring. Any experience with fair housing or other testing a plus. You will recruit and train testers and coordinate monitoring of settlement agreements and consent decrees. * Track client costs, and handle client billing, legal program accounts payable and receivable, and manage timekeeping program. *Drive attorneys to court, pick up and deliver documents. * Maintain organizational database *Provide other assistance as requested. Salary and Benefits Starting salary $21,000-$26,000 per year, DOE.CCDC is not able to offer group health insurance but can negotiate for the purchase of an individual policy or a private Health Savings Account with a successful candidate.
