Howdy Folks. I'm what you might call a Federalist, but not in the sense of Alexander Hamilton, more in the sense of John Adams. I believe, like they do, that faction is a central fact of political life, and so I'm beginning a process of creating a new, raw, populist faction that is dedicated to furthering the cause of the common man against the compartmentalization of society. At one time in our history, political parties were not abstract organizations that people heard about on TV, they were, instead, meeting halls and potlach dinners where people aired their grievances in the hopes of seeing them redressed. I propose to reintroduce this "organic" political/social structure back into our lives, only in this case, have clearly defined goals (of course, always open to amendment) that unify the "party" atmosphere. The concept, in and of itself is simple. We meet once a week in a town square or public venue. There we "pass the feather": everyone speaks their mind and talks about anything that is important, including heartsong. Feather groups are no larger then 10, but we all hang out aferwords and discuss politics and our general beliefs. We are part of the Featheratic Party. Our symbol? A blue feather (some will know this symbol and what it stands for). This is not a job, it's an adventure, but I think it does fit into "non-profit," because I have no intention of making money off this, only political hay. I said I was a Federalist when I started this, and what I mean by that is I am a strong believer that a basic, continuous civics course concerning our constitution and national history is a strong remedy for a host of problems that plague less educated minds. To that end, another aspect of this "event" is the continued perusal and discussion of the Federalist Papers, which will be carried out both on and offline at Featherheads' leisure. Just so we are on the same page here: My favorite Presidents: George Washington Abraham Lincoln FDR Jimmy Carter (actually he sucked as a president, but you gotta love the guy) my least favorite: Andrew Jackson Herbert Hoover Richard Nixon GWJr. I invite anyone with interest to email me so we can get this show on the road. -Owl
