We are actively recruiting for a Systems Engineering Director to join our Systems Engineering team.
This position requires up to 15% annual travel.
Position Summary:
The Systems Engineering Director position requires an accomplished professional with experience and knowledge of large enterprise-level applications on DB2, Oracle and SQL Server. This successful candidate will have an extensive background in the SCM, middleware and database administration and the project management field. The Systems Engineering Director will play an instrumental role in managing the deployment, configuration and tuning of database and middleware solutions for Fiserv Insurance Solutions Property and Casualty division product development and implementations. This individual will oversee the SCM, DBA and Middleware practice. The individual will be required to perform independently as well as work in a team structure in support of activities related to the Software Development Lifecycle to include client engagements. The Systems Engineering Director will be required to manage process and activities for multiple concurrent projects.
Job Responsibilities:
The Systems Engineering Director will provide hands-on technical and project support in a team of technology professionals that are responsible for the design, implementation, enhancement, optimization, and maintenance of large enterprise-level applications on IBM Websphere, jBoss, Apache Tomcat Middleware Application Servers with DB2, Oracle and SQL Server. The Systems Engineering Director will provide status accounting reports of defect and enhancement activities, client engagements and metrics as outlined within the SDLC.
Responsible for feasibility studies, time and cost estimates, and the establishment and implementation of new or revised application systems to solve systems software problems.
Responsible for assigning SCM, DBA and Systems Analysis personnel to various projects and directs their activities.
Responsible for coordinating the activities of the SCM, DBA and Systems Analysis personnel staff with the activities of other systems and/or programming sections.
Interaction with development and QA to ensure quality designs of customer-specific enhancements.
Provides input/justification for project costs and budget impact.
Works with internal departments to outline database requirements and resolve highly complex database issues.
Participate in product planning and product development sessions.
Provides input and direction into Business Continuity, Security and other corporate initiatives.
Consult on topology design for implementing customers and outsourcing.
Responsible for the hiring and assessment of the SCM, DBA and Systems Analysis reporting to this position.
Job Requirements:
Years of Experience: 7-10 years experience in Software Development and 5+ years experience in a supervisory/management role.
Skills and Knowledge:
Must come from a service provider background with a good understanding of the considerations there are in organizing and executing changes / projects.
An in-depth understanding of budget and cost-benefit relationships.
Very high technical competence with a track record of individual technical accomplishments.
Strong organizational skills in process management.
Previous management experience of technical personnel.
Ability to establish credibility with smart engineers quickly.
Ability to manage complex technical projects.
Ability to motivate and demonstrate technical leadership.
Strong written, verbal, and non-verbal skills.
Experience working with transaction-centric business applications.
Java/J2EE knowledge – overall architecture, code structure.
Strong Project Management Skills.
Education/Certifications/Training:
B.S. in Computer Science, MIS, or equivalent; related work experience can be substituted for educational requirement
Strong understanding of software development methodologies and project lifecycle
PMI certification – strongly desired

Travel and/or Other: This position requires up to 15% annual travel. Position does require significant communication by phone, email, and face-to-face. Position also requires managing multiple projects concurrently in a fast paced environment. The job requirements will necessitate that from time to time the workload will exceed the standard working hours and the applicant must be willing to contribute to those situations.
